Instagram has no bold button — not in the bio, not in captions. To add emphasis anyway, people reach for Unicode characters: letters that look bold or italic and paste in easily. Technically you are not switching typeface, you are inserting different characters that look the same everywhere — on iPhone, Android and the web.

Instagram fonts for your bio

The bio is where it pays off most: you only have 150 characters there, and a highlighted name or call-to-action pulls the eye straight in. Bold works well for the profile name, a subtle italic for what you do.

Keep it sparing — one highlight per line lands better than a fully decorated bio.

Changing the font on Instagram

Do the fonts work in stories?

What to know about search and accessibility

Instagram search will not recognise "𝗽𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵𝗲𝗿" as "photographer". Keep your key terms in normal text and use the special characters only for emphasis.

Screen readers also tend to misread these characters or skip them entirely, because they are encoded as mathematical symbols. Anyone relying on text-to-speech will not follow a fully decorated bio. Use the fonts deliberately and leave the core information in plain text.
