Social media safe zone checker

Check whether the app hides your text or subject on TikTok, Instagram Reels, Stories and YouTube Shorts. Free, in your browser, no upload.

How it works

  1. 1

    Upload a still

Upload your cover or a still from your video. It stays on your device — nothing is sent to a server.

  2. 2

    Pick a platform

Switch between TikTok, Instagram Reel, Instagram Story and YouTube Shorts. The red areas show what each app covers.

  3. 3

    Adjust your composition

If text or a face sits under red, move it inwards in your video edit — before you publish.

Popular use cases

  • Content creators

    No text under buttons

Check before uploading whether your on-screen text gets hidden behind like and comment icons.

  • Advertising

    Keep your call-to-action visible

A prompt nobody can read costs you clicks. Check the position before budget goes out.

  • E-commerce

    Product in view

Make sure your product does not disappear behind the caption but sits in the centre of frame.

  • Cross-posting

    One video, several platforms

The covered areas differ per platform. Check the same video against each one separately.

  • Video editing

    Check before rendering

Test a still from your editing software before exporting the finished video.

  • Subtitles

    Place subtitles correctly

Subtitles easily slip into the lower area covered by the caption and music row. Move them up.

Every platform layers its interface differently over your vertical video: buttons on the right, caption and username at the bottom, navigation at the top. What stays clear on TikTok may already be covered in a reel or a Short.

Upload a still and switch between platforms. The red areas show what each app covers; everything inside the dashed line stays visible.

TikTok safe zone

On TikTok the bottom edge is hit hardest: username, caption and music title take up around 480 pixels at 1080 × 1920. Around 140 pixels on the right go to likes, comments and share.

Instagram Reels and Stories safe zone

Reels have the widest button column on the right (around 180 pixels) and around 400 pixels at the bottom for username, caption and audio row. Stories are more symmetrical: around 250 pixels each at the top and bottom for the progress bar and reply field.

YouTube Shorts safe zone

Shorts have the largest bottom area: channel name, title and progress bar stack up and take around 490 pixels. On the right it is around 150 pixels.

One video for every platform

If you publish the same clip everywhere, follow the strictest zone: keep text and faces centred and well above the bottom third. All values are guidelines — exact positions vary by device and app version.

Frequently asked questions

What is a safe zone?

The area of a vertical video not covered by the app’s buttons, caption or navigation. Important content belongs inside it.

Which platforms can I check?

TikTok, Instagram Reels, Instagram Stories and YouTube Shorts — each at 1080 × 1920.

Does one crop fit every platform?

Only if you follow the strictest zone. TikTok and YouTube Shorts cover the most at the bottom, Instagram Reels on the right.
